BBC One’s Australian drama, The Secrets She Keeps returns for its second season.
Here we look at where filming took place for the drama series that’s inspired by a real-life hospital kidnap.
Where was The Secrets She Keeps filmed?
The story is set in Sydney, just like in Michael Robotham’s novel – the book that the series is based on.
Filming took place on location in Sydney and in the Blue Mountains in New South Wales, Australia.
The Blue Mountains is renowned for its incredible scenery, boasting of waterfalls, eucalyptus forests and cliffs.
Specific filming locations in Sydney also included Dulwich Hill, Centennial Park and Northbridge.
Speaking to What’s On TV, Laura Carmichael (who plays Agatha) said: “I was filming in Australia for about four months and it was amazing to go somewhere where you don’t really know anyone and to do something so challenging and different.”

The actress’ boyfriend’s (Downton Abbey actor Michael Fox) brother lives in Sydney and after visiting him she wished she could go back.
This was then that the script for the show was presented to her.

She told Bournemouth’s Daily Echo: “When the script came in, it felt serendipitous. It’s meant to be.
“I got there pretty much as they [Australians] were going to into winter, which is not what we would recognise as winter; it was gorgeous sunny blue skies and really crisp.”
Where did the real-life events of The Secrets She Keeps take place?
The Secrets She Keeps is based on a real hospital kidnap that happened in 1994.
Abbie Humphries was born in Nottingham at Queen’s Medical Centre where just a few hours later Julie Kelley, took her.
Julie, who was 22 at the time and a former dental nurse, approached Abbie’s dad, Roger Humphries, and told him Abbie needed a hearing test.
She was dressed in a nurse’s uniform so Roger did not suspect that anything was wrong.
Abbie wasn’t returned for 17 days. She was found in Nottingham in a Wollaton flat occupied by Julie’s boyfriend.
It was discovered that Julie took Abbie after faking her own pregnancy to try and fix her failing relationship.
Julie was treated for a personality disorder and was put on probation for three years.
Meanwhile, Abbie’s family moved to New Zealand when she was 10 years old to start afresh.
She still lives there, now happily married, and has enjoyed watching The Secrets She Keeps.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Abbie said she loved watching the TV adaptation of The Secrets She Keeps but acknowledged the pain it causes those close to her.
“As I am sure you can imagine, this does bring up a lot of emotions for my family,” she said.
Abbie has said in the past that her parents were open with her at a young age about what had happened.
Julie lives in a village somewhere in the Midlands.
The author of the book the series is based on, Michael Robotham, is an Australian writer.
At the time of the kidnap in Nottingham, Robotham was a journalist working in London.
