GOGGLEBOX star Andy Michael has died at the age of 61. Here we take a look at him and his family, who became fan favourites on the TV show.

Andy

The star was a fan favourite, and routinely appeared on the sofa alongside son Louis, big sister Alex and wife Caroylne. The family first appeared on Gogglebox in the debut episode in 2013. In 2014, they announced that they were leaving because Andy was running for Ukip in the general election. After he failed to secure the Hastings and Rye seat, they returned for future episodes. He sadly passed away at age 61 on August 27 2021. The statement, given to the PA news agency, said: “We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Gogglebox star Andy Michael at the age of 61 following a short illness. “Andy passed away last weekend with his family by his side. “Retired hotelier Andy, who brought much wit and insight to Gogglebox, was one of the show’s original cast members, appearing in the very first episode in 2013. “Beloved father to Katy, Alex, Pascal and Louis, and cherished husband of Carolyne, Andy was a much-loved and respected member of the Gogglebox family, and he will be very sadly missed. “Our love and thoughts are with Carolyne and the entire family. The family have asked for privacy at this very sad time”.

Carolyne

Carolyne is the doting wife of Andt Michael and a mother of four.

She works in Brighton as a ​​Spiritual Counsellor & SoulPlan Reader.

Alex

It was discovered that Alex is sometimes subbed by her lookalike sister Catheryne – and when the pair appeared together on screen viewers went wild.

Googlebox watchers had previously thought the sister were the same girl with just slightly different make-up. Catheryne, known as Katie, was travelling in Australia when the family first signed up for the show but now she’s returned to the UK she sometimes surprises viewers by making an appearance.

Pascal, their other son, has made appearances on the show too.

He was said to be studying neuroscience in Aberdeen when the family first joined the show.

Louis

Louis is studying at the University of Chester where his big sister Alex received a Masters in Computer Science.

How much do the Gogglebox families get paid?

A Gogglebox insider told The Celeb Report Online that each of the families taking part are handed a monthly family allowance of £1,500. The amount is then split amongst contributing family members at their own discretion. The monthly wage comes with its own added perks and each of the families receives free takeaways to keep them going through each sitting.

How many hours of TV do the Gogglebox families watch?

In exchange for the £1,500 fee (and free food) each of the families are expected to commit to 12 hours of filming a week across two six-hour shifts. That’s a lot of TV…
