Who has played Joe Biden on Saturday Night Live?

Joe Biden was first portrayed on SNL back in 2013 after he and Barack Obama won the presidential election for a second time.

Over the years, Joe Biden has been played by:

  • Jason Sudeikis (2013)
  • Woody Harrelson (2019)
  • John Mulaney (2020)
  • Alex Moffatt (2020)
  • Jim Carrey (2020)
  • James Austin Johnson (2021)

Johnson made his SNL debut in October 2021 with his Biden impression and was an instant hit among fans.

During his skit, he poked fun at Biden’s infrastructure bill and was seen trying to bring Democrats together.

Outside of SNL, Johnson is famously known for his Donald Trump impersonations.

He was one of three new cast members on SNL this season along with Aristotle Athari and Sarah Sherman.

Johnson later reprised the role again in January 2022 and was seen blaming the current Covid-19 surge on people seeing Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

“Hello, my fellow Americans,” he said. “As I keep saying every chance I get, we’re in the middle of a cold, dark winter. This winter is so dark, Republicans don’t think it should vote.”

“This virus has disrupted our lives. It’s canceled holidays, weddings, quinceañeras, gender-reveal parties, wildfires that started as gender-reveal parties.”

Johnson’s Biden claimed there was “one simple thing” Americans could do to stop the spread and that was to “Stop seeing Spider-Man.”

“Think about it, when did Spider-Man come out? December 17. When did every single person get Omicron? The week after December 17,” he continued.

What season is SNL on?

Saturday Night Live first premiered in 1975 and has been on-air ever since.

The show is currently in its 47th season, which debuted on October 2, 2021.

Fans can watch SNL Saturdays at 11:30pm ET on NBC. The show can also be streamed through Hulu as well as NBC’s website or on Peacock for a monthly rate of $5.99.

Throughout the show’s history, there have been six comedians who have portrayed the role

Why did Jim Carrey leave the role?

Carrey tweeted on December 19, 2020, that he will no longer be putting on the Joe Biden makeup.

“Though my term was only meant to be 6 weeks, I was thrilled to be elected as your SNL President … comedy’s highest call of duty,” Carrey wrote at the time.

“I would love to go forward knowing that Biden was the victor because I nailed that sh*t.

“But I am just one in a long line of proud, fighting SNL Bidens!”

Carrey played Joe Biden in the first six episodes of SNL’s 46th season.

He played Biden for the first time on October 4, 2020, with the episode featuring a re-enactment of a presidential debate between Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Biden.

The final time Carrey portrayed Biden was November 7, 2020, – the day the former vice president was declared the election winner.

Following Carrey’s exit, Moffat took over.
