Who is leaving New Amsterdam?

SEASON four of the medical drama, New Amsterdam, has premiered on NBC and fans have begun to speculate that some of our favorite cast could be leaving.

Whilst there’s no official confirmation, here’s what we know so far…

Who is leaving New Amsterdam?

Dr. Helen Sharpe played by Freema Agyeman 

Freema has not left New Amsterdam just yet, but her character, Helen Sharpe, is apparently planning on returning back to the UK as she is homesick.

If Helen decides to move, it will mean that she might be giving up her relationship with Max as the pair have appeared to finally be committed to being with each other.

In the promo trailer for episode two, we hear Helen say that she will  be leaving for London in six weeks, so her departure may not happen in the following episodes. 

If Helen leaves it will mean that New Amsterdam will be losing one of their biggest cast members.

Dr. Max Goodwin played by Ryan Eggold 

Although there are no reports to say that Ryan Rggold is leaving the show, fans have begun to speculate that his character will be departing after the season 4 opening suggested him stepping away from the hospital.

At the end of season three, Max’s love interest, Helen, revealed she was leaving New Amsterdam to continue her work in the UK.

In the opening of season four, Max came across like he was looking to replace Helen, as she had already spent time away in the UK.

However, Max then started to say that he no longer wanted to try and replace her, but needed to follow her with her journey to the UK.

Who will be replacing them?

Dr Veronica Fuentes played by Michelle Forbes

Veronica was introduced when she received a phone call from Karen Brantley (played by Debra Monk) to come to the New Amsterdam Medical center.

This comes after the announcement, where Max and Helen say they will be leaving New Amsterdam and heading off to London.

Karen gets angry by the news and decides to bring in Veronica as a way to shake things up in the hospital. 

The biggest question now is how will Dr Fuentes impact New Amsterdam?

In the meantime, fans on Twitter have gone crazy after hearing the news.

One fan commented: “Fuentes is about to shut all this sh*t down!”

A second said: “It’s Dr Fuentes and she is coming to destroy all the good work Max and Helen have done for New Amsterdam Ugggghhhh I could punch Karen in the face right about now”

“Karen wasted no time.. Dr Fuentes about to shake things up…” a third commented.

New Amsterdam Season 4 Episode 2 airs Tuesdays at 10 pm ET on NBC.
