Louise Minchin is leaving BBC Breakfast – but who will co-host with Dan Walker?

Who is replacing Louise Minchin on BBC Breakfast?

On June 8, 2021 Louise told BBC Breakfast viewers that 2021 will be her last year on the show.

In an emotional statement, she said: “I have absolutely loved being part of the 6 million strong BBC Breakfast family but after nearly two decades presenting the programme, I have decided it is time I stopped setting my alarm for 0340 in the morning.

“A big thank you to everyone who has watched and supported me, I have loved it and I will miss you all.”

We take you through the names of those being tipped to take over her job.

Sally Nugent

Sally Nugent is top choice as she has filled in for Sally on BBC Breakfast numerous times

Journalist and newsreader Sally has been filling in for BBC Breakfast’s regular hosts on a freelance basis since November 2011.

When Louise was off in December 2020, she was her replacement.

Sally currently serves as the show’s main relief presenter.

Since 2012 she has also presented the sports bulletins alongside Mike Bushell, positioning her to take over from Louise.

Piers Morgan

Could Piers Morgan make a return to breakfast telly?

Piers is currently a free man, after sensationally quitting GMB.

He also has experience in presenting breakfast telly.

After Louise revealed she was quitting the show, Piers straight away taunted his nemesis Dan Walker.

He tweeted: “Stop blubbing Dan – I start Monday.

“BBC wanted the guy who beat you in the ratings, and the first same-sex male breakfast presenting team to appease the wokies.”

Eamonn Holmes

Eamonn Holmes is a veteran of morning TV

Due to his long career on morning TV, Eamonn’s hat always gets thrown into the ring.

He shot to fame on ITV’s previous breakfast show GMTV in the 90s and early 00s, before switching to Sky News.

Eamonn is of course well known for hosting This Morning with his wife Ruth Langsford.

Bill Turnbull

Bill Turnbull formerly hosted BBC Breakfast with Louise

Bill was the main male presenter of BBC Breakfast from 2001 until 2016.

He stepped down to pursue other opportunities.

The veteran broadcaster could return to fill the space left by Louise, even if it is only temporarily.

Kay Burley

Kay Burley is also a name being tipped to takeover from Louise

Kay was one of the founding presenters of Sky News and has worked on the channel since it launched in 1988.

She has spent the last six months off work after being suspended in September after she admitted breaking coronavirus rules.

Kay returned to Sky on June 8, 2021, but could BBC Breakfast be a fresh start for Kay?

She has a long history as a journalist and has previously worked for the BBC.

Kay Burley worked for BBC local radio and Tyne Tees Television, before joining TV-am in 1985 as a reporter and occasional newsreader.
