Who was Siobhan Marsden in Emmerdale and what happened to her?

Siobhan Marsden first rocked up Yorkshire over two decades ago in March, 2003, alongside her husband Paul.

Soon upon her arrival, she found a job as a nurse but Siobhan didn’t have the quiet life she was perhaps hoping for as she repeatedly clashed with locals.

She was most notably at loggerheads with Victoria Sugden who faked an illness but when she actually became ill, Siobhan was convinced she was crying wolf.

This resulted in Siobhan going head to head with Victoria’s father Jack Sugden.

Siobhan and Paul moved into Victoria Cottage in late 2003 after the latter’s family moved away and they seemed to have many happy years ahead of them.

But as regular ITV viewers will know, heartbreak and sometimes death follow closely behind wherever happiness and love go.

The nurse’s married life came to a tragic end in July, 2004, when Paul was asked to fix the gutters on a roof with Carl King.

During their job, Carl playfully tossed him some tools but Paul fell to his death as he tried to catch them.

To make matters worse, Carl became convinced he would be blamed for Paul’s death as they had made up after an explosive fight over a package the day before.

This prompted Carl to call his brothers Jimmy King and Matthew King for help.

Paul’s body was moved to his garden, leading to Siobhan finding him after an outing to the pub with her pal Chloe Atkinson.

Devastated, Siobhan decided Emmerdale was no longer a place for her and she made plans to leave as soon as she could, much to Matthew’s satisfaction who quickly bought Victoria Cottage.

Days prior to her departure, Siobhan received some bittersweet news – she was pregnant.

While he always wanted to be a carpenter, Paul also dreamed of, one day, becoming a father and building a family with his wife.

The pregnancy made Siobhan consider staying in the village but Matthew was determined to get rid of her and refused to let her rent.

Siobhan packed her things and waved Emmerdale goodbye on September 7, 2004, never knowing the true circumstances of Paul’s death.

She hasn’t been heard from ever since.

The Marsden family were introduced to viewers in the early noughties but after they had been on our screens for six months, Emmerdale producer Steve Frost decided to axe the majority of them, leaving only Siobhan and Paul.

Siobhan’s departure put an end to the Marsdens’ stay in the Dales.

Who played Siobhan Marsden in Emmerdale?

The forgotten character was portrayed by Cumbria actress Abigail Fisher from her Emmerdale debut until her 2004 exit.

Abigail has only made sporadic appearances on our screens.

She kicked off her acting career by appearing in the TV series Jonny Briggs as Nadine from 1985 to 1987.

She was then spotted in one episode of The Lakes in 1997 before joining the line-up of the Hollyoaks spin-off, Hollyoaks: Movin’ On in 2001.

This was Abigail’s first stint in soapland as she then appeared in Heartbeat as Christine Hargrave in 2002 before finally ending up in Emmerdale.

Abigail stepped away from the spotlight altogether after an appearance in the 2008 short film Found.

While details of her life post-Emmerdale are unknown, she was said to be living in Leeds at the time of her stint on the Yorkshire-based drama and seems to have decided against having an online presence as there are no social media profiles in her name.

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7.30pm on ITV.
