Who was Cindy Williams?
Born on August 22, 1947, Cindy Williams was an American actress known for her appearances in Happy Days, American Graffiti, and The Conversation.
Hailing from Los Angeles, California, she landed bit parts in 60s-era shows such as Room 222 and Love, American Style before achieving her breakout.
In the early 1970s, Cindy rose to prominence for the movies Travels with My Aunt, American Graffiti, and Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation.
In 1975, her success continued when she was brought on to co-star with Henry Winkler and Penny Marshall in Happy Days.
Her character Shirley Feeney proved so popular that the network ordered a spinoff for her and the Marshall character Laverne De Fazio.
On January 27, 1976, Laverne & Shirley premiered on ABC.
The series ran for eight seasons and concluded on May 10, 1983.
On January 25, 2023, Cindy died after a short battle with an illness.
Five days later on Monday, January 30, her children announced: “The passing of our kind, hilarious mother, Cindy Williams, has brought us insurmountable sadness that could never truly be expressed.
“Knowing and loving her has been our joy and privilege.
“She was one of a kind, beautiful, generous, and possessed a brilliant sense of humor and a glittering spirit that everyone loved.”
