British actor Peter Bowles has died at the age of 85.
The English actor of stage and screen was most famous for his starring role in BBC sitcom To The Manor Born.
Who was Peter Bowles?
Born in London in 1936, Peter Bowles began his career by starring in Shakespeare plays at the Old Vic in 1956.
He then went on to perform in the sold-out Winter Garden Theatre on Broadway.
He played a range of characters on the small screen, famously the villain Balor in an episode of Space: 1999.
Bowles then went on to make a name for himself by starring in television comedies like Rising Damp, To the Manor Born and Only When I laugh, and he famously turned down the role of Jerry in The Good Life.

Peter Bowles’ agent Gavin Barker confirmed the sad news that his client has passed away after a battle with cancer, in a statement released on March 17, 2022.
“The actor Peter Bowles has sadly passed away at the age of 85 from cancer,” Gavin Barker confirmed.
Barker’s statement illustrated Peter Bowles’ long and successful career both on stage and on the small screen.
He listed the productions Bowles had starred in over the years, including his most famous role as Richard DeVere in the highly popular To the Manor Born and to the later drama serious Lytton’s Diary which Bowles devised himself.

The English actor who won ITV personality of the year in 1983, married his wife Susan Bennett in 1961.
The couple had been married for over 60 years when it was announced that Bowles had passed away after a battle with cancer, on Thursday March 17, 2022.
