COUNTDOWN presenter Anne Robinson has quit the show after being on the Channel 4 programme for just one year.

Moria Stuart is one of the favourites to replace Robinson on the show.

She is a British presenter and broadcaster.

The 72-year-old was the first Caribbean female newsreader to appear on British national television.

She has received a number of awards during her career, including being appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2001 for services to broadcasting, and a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2022 for services to media.

In 2021, she partnered with Aljaž Škorjanec in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.

Paul O’Grady



Paul O’Grady

Paul James O’Grady is an English comedian, broadcaster, actor, writer and former drag queen.

He achieved notability in the London gay scene during the 1980s with his drag queen persona Lily Savage.

The star may have time to take on the Countdown position, as he revealed changes to his Radio 2 show means he now broadcasts 13 weeks on and 13 weeks off.

Sir Trevor McDonald

Award-winning journalist, Sir Trevor McDonald could be welcomed as the new Countdown host.

The 82-year-old is a Trinidadian-British newsreader and journalist, best known for his career as a news presenter with ITN.

In 1999, McDonald was knighted for his services to journalism.

McDonald fronted a special episode of the Channel 4 series last year as part of the network’s Black To Front day.

Speaking ahead of the show at the time, he said: “I have always enjoyed watching Countdown, a show that has been around for almost as long as I have!”

Colin Murray



Colin Murray

Colin Murray is a Northern Irish radio and television presenter.

The 45-year-old made his Countdown debut in December 2020 when he temporarily replaced Nick Hewer.

Opening the show at the time, he told the audience: “I’ve been a fan of this show since I was five years old, so this is an absolute dream come true.”

Murray regularly presented the show from January 13, 2021, until Hewer returned on February 10, 2022.

When is Anne Robinson’s final Countdown show?

Robinson will continue to appear on Countdown until the summertime, Channel 4 said.

She will then be returning to America to spend quality time with her family.

The 77-year-old Weakest Link host joined the show in 2021, replacing Nick Hewer and becoming the first female to take the role.

In a statement speaking about her time on the show, she revealed that while she had “a blast” hosting, and had stayed on the show “longer” than she had “signed up for”.

“Now it is time for an older woman to take the reins.”

She added: “I hope too I’ve encouraged TV bosses to realise that not all women at the wrong end of their 70s are in care homes playing bingo and watching conjuring tricks.”
