Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, was at deaths door in the series five finale.

His life hung in the balance as his plan to take down Oswald Mosley, Sam Clafin, backfired.

The Peaky Blinders are often seen smoking cigarettes and swigging whisky in their local pub, The Garrison. 

Tommy often has a cigarette hanging out of his mouth and viewers have a few questions.

Why does Tommy Shelby put his cigarette on his lips before smoking?

A cigarette without a filter sticks to your lips so rolling it across your mouth will dampen it and stop this happening.

Cillian Murphy, in a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread said: “The cigarettes have the filter cut off by the prop department and the paper sticks to my lips unless I moisten them.

“Then it just became a Tommy tic.”

Irish actor Cillian Murphy is best known for his portrayal of Thomas Shelby in the hit series Peaky Blinders.

Murphy has appeared in films such as Batman, Inception and Dunkirk.

But he is best recognised for his portrayal as Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders.

The BBC drama is set in 1920s Birmingham and chronicles the escapades of the Shelby family gang.
