What is The Great British Bake Off?

The Great British Bake Off, also called The Great Baking Show, is a competition starring 12 competitors.

Each competitor attempts to create difficult recipes in an environment that encourages each other to be helpful rather than overly competitive.

Each week, one contestant is named the Star Baker, prompting them to win the round, while another contestant is eliminated.

The show is hosted by comedians Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas and chefs Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith are the judges.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the show was set in a secured location at the Down Hall Hotel Spa and Estate on the outskirts of London for 2020 and 2021.

However, the 2022 season has returned to its old location at Welford Park country house and estate in Berkshire County.

This location had previously been used to film all seasons of the show from 2014 to 2019.

Why does the show have two names?

In the United Kingdom, the favored baking show is referred to as The Great British Bake Off, or Bake Off.

However, in the US, the show is called The Great British Baking Show due to trademark issues.

The famous American baking brand Pillsbury, which is owned by General Mills, owns the trademark for the term “bake off” as it encompasses all baking competitions in the US.

In 1949, Pillsbury began a baking competition to celebrate its 80th anniversary, known as the Pillsbury Bake Off.

When The Great British Baking Show first aired in the US, the trademark on “bake off” conflicted with the name given to the show in the UK.
