AFTER eight years on Saturday Night Live, Beck Bennett announced he was leaving the hit comedy series behind on September 27, 2021.
Beck became known for his hilarious impressions on the show, including that of Russian leader Vladimir Putin and former Vice President Mike Pence.
Why is Beck Bennett leaving SNL?
Beck Bennett took to Instagram to announce his departure and pay tribute to his time on Saturday Night Live.
He shared a number of black and white snaps from his time on set and wrote in the caption, “Love you, SNL. Gonna miss you so much.”
Beck added that he “had so much fun” on the show and that the experience “completely changed my life.”
He didn’t explain his reasons for deciding to leave, but it looks pretty clear that there’s no bad blood here.
Who else is leaving SNL?
Beck is one of just two cast members leaving ahead of the October 2, 2021 premiere of season 47.
The other, comedian Lauren Holt, is departing the show after just one season.
On Instagram, Lauren shared a snap of the iconic SNL clock and revealed that she was “so grateful” and “proud” to have been a part of an “amazing family”.
Who is replacing Beck Bennett?
Beck and Lauren’s departure has made way for three newcomers: Aristotle Athari, James Austin Johnson and Sarah Sherman.
Aristotle Athari is currently best known for his work on HBO series Silicon Valley, whilst James Austin Johnson went viral in 2020 for his impressions of then-President Donald Trump.
Sarah Sherman, meanwhile, has made a name for herself through her bizarre and outlandish comedy act, which sees her adopt her alter ego Sarah Squirm.
