He also reported for LBC and BBC Radio 5 Live.

His TV career began when he started working for ITN in 1995.

Why is Charlie Stayt not on BBC Breakfast?

Charlie only hosts BBC Breakfast from Thursday to Saturday, so is missing from the show from Monday to Wednesday.

He is expected to return on Thursday, July 13, 2023.

Charlie presents alongside Naga Munchetty.

In his appearance on July 8, 2023, he ate crickets live on air after Naga revealed two billion people in the world eat dried insects.

Their guest Tiziana Di Costanzo, who runs cooking classes at Horizon Edible Insects, had brought in the roasted crickets.

Naga stated: “I don’t think you should try one, I think you should have a few to get the full flavour.”

Despite this Charlie munched away as the studio fell silent with Naga asking what they tasted like.

Charlie stated they were a little bit nutty but that it was hard to describe.

He became a main presenter in 2008, and presents from Salford on Thursdays through to Saturday.
