Will there be a season 2 of Time?

FANS of dark prison drama, Time, are wondering whether they will be treated to a second season of the show as they binge on the BBC hit.

The three-part mini-series stars Sean Bean and Stephen Graham, Time follows new prisoner Mark Cobden (Bean) and prison officer Eric McNally (Graham) and the tough and scary experiences of being inside.

Will there be a series 2 of Time?

The BBC has not yet confirmed whether there will be a follow-up series.

As Time is a limited series, the second season of episodes seems unlikely, but not completely out of the question.

The prison drama landed on BBC One and iPlayer on June 6th, 2021 and, considering the open ended finale, a second season could one day be a possibility if director Jimmy McGovern chooses to return.

What could happen in season 2?

Season two could potentially see McNally seeking revenge against Mark Cobden for his imprisonment.

The show could also tackle how McNally deals with life outside of prison since his release in the season finale.

How did season one end?

In season one Sean Bean plays Mark Cobden, a former teacher who is in prison for killing a cyclist while drink-driving and sentenced to four years.

In his early days in prison, he’s bullied by another inmate and has some troubled cellmates.

To stop the bullying he calls on Jackson Jones, an older inmate who we find out is the head of a smuggling ring and who soon is calling in a favour from Mark.

The series ends with viewers finding out that Jackson had been blackmailing prison guard Eric McNally (Stephen Graham) into smuggling drugs and other contraband into the prison.

Eric is caught smuggling in the last episode, and confessed, explaining that he did what he did in order to protect his son, an inmate at another prison.

He is sentenced to four years and refuses to name any names and incriminate others, as he wanted to ensure that his son remained safe.

In some of the final scenes of Time we see Mark and Eric swap places from the start of the drama, with Eric preparing to serve his sentence and Mark preparing for his freedom.

Stephen Graham revealed to The Celeb Report that he shadowed a prison guard to get into character for the role.

“‘I absorbed this fella like a sponge. These prison guards, they’re trying to do a job to the best of their ability,” said the This Is England and Line of Duty actor.

“Their job is to protect themselves, protect the prisoners and make it a nice, reasonable, cohesive place where everyone can do their time, treated with respect.”
