MYSTERY thriller Guilt is back on BBC One for a second instalment after a two-year break.

Production was slowed down by the Covid pandemic. But with the show back on track, can viewers expect a third season?

Will there be a season 3 of Guilt?

Season two of Guilt premiered on BBC Two on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at 9pm.

Much like its first instalment, the second series of the programme is made of four hour-long episodes.

Episode two is will be broadcasted Thursday, October 21, 2021, with the two remaining episodes airing weekly.

Following this logic, the finale of Guilt season 2 should be aired on Thursday, December 4, 2021.

This means that BBC Two viewers only have three weeks left before what could be a long break.

Indeed, there have yet been no reports regarding a third season of the Scottish mystery series.

All four episodes of Guilt season two have been made available on BBC iPlayer before its launch, on October 12, 2021.

What happened at the end of Guilt season 1?

The first drama commission of BBC Scotland, the show revolves around two brothers, Max and Jake (respectively portrayed by Mark Bonnar and Jamie Sives).

The first season of Guilt begins with the pair in a car, returning from a wedding. The trip home turns deadly when they accidentally run over and kill and elderly man, Walter, in an Edinburgh street.

Uninsured and under the influence, they decide to try and cover up the crime to avoid any legal repercussions.

The first season of Guilt followed Max and Jake in the wake of the accident and, as the show progresses, the story brought in new characters and storylines making it difficult for them to keep their secret under wraps.

For instance, Max’s wife Claire soon becomes suspicious upon seeing him spending so much time with his brother, suspecting he may be having an affair.

While Jake is convinced by a private investigator named Kenny (Emun Elliott) to pin the blame on Max, he refuses out of loyalty for his brother.

After many obstacles, including an attempted blackmail orchestrated by Walter’s neighbour, the first series end in a shocking twist.

Approached by Kenny with proof of the crime – who requests that he give him a job to avoid being thrown under the bus – Max decides to turn himself in.

The first season of Guilt ends as Max is taken away by authorities.

Guilt season 2 thus begun with Max’s release from prison, after a two-year sentence for Walter’s death.
