Will there be another season of Top Boy and how many episodes are there?

Fans of the hit show Top Boy were overjoyed when the highly-anticipated fifth season premiered on Netflix. However, with the entire series now available for binge-watching, viewers are eager to know if there will be more. So, will there be another season of Top Boy? And how many episodes does the show have? Let's find out.

Will there be another series of Top Boy?

Netflix delighted fans when it released all six episodes of Top Boy season 5 on September 7, 2023. But alas, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Netflix has officially confirmed that Top Boy has reached its conclusion. This gripping drama, which centers around rival drug-dealing gangs vying for power, has come to an end with the fifth season. Fans will have to bid farewell to the compelling stories of Dushane (Ashley Walters) and Sully (Kano).

During a recent Netflix global fan event, actor Ashley Walters shared why they decided to end the series. In his own words, "With something as great as this, you should end on a high, and that’s what we’re doing. We’re all battling on a daily basis to make sure that we give our audience and the fans of the show the most amazing ending that we can."

How many episodes of Top Boy are there?

Across all five seasons, Top Boy has a total of 36 episodes. The first two series, produced by Channel 4, consisted of four episodes each. When Netflix took over, they increased the episode count to ten per series for two seasons. However, the final season returned to a shorter format, with only six episodes. The good news is that all episodes of Top Boy are currently available for streaming on Netflix.

Top Boy initially premiered on Channel 4 in 2011 but was unfortunately canceled after two series. However, thanks to the support of music artist Drake, Netflix picked up the show and produced three additional seasons.

What did the stars say about Top Boy ending?

Lead actor Ashley Walters has been candid about his feelings regarding the conclusion of Top Boy. In an interview with GQ, he expressed that while Netflix "wanted it to go on forever," he believed the show had run its course. Walters explained, "You don’t see 60 or 70-year-old top boys, unless it’s the mafia. So I feel like we’re doing the right thing." He further added, "Not that it’s not been great and the seasons have all been great and everyone’s loved them and I’ve loved them, but it wouldn’t have been right. I like to end on a high."

Jasmine Jobson, who portrayed the character Jaq, also shared her perspective on the show's conclusion. In the same interview, she mentioned the aptness of the ending considering the subject matter. "We’re showing the public that there’s only so far you can go. You can end up in prison, you can end up dead, but every top boy has to come to a stop at some point," Jobson stated.

So, while fans may be disheartened by the end of Top Boy, they can take solace in the fact that the show concluded on its own terms, leaving behind a powerful legacy.
