LOVE Island will NOT return next January for the winter edition of the show.
The ITV2 series, which usually airs at the start of the new year, has been axed – and has been replaced with a Love Island All Stars version.
Winter Love Island has been axed
Sanam and Kai were crowned winners of this year’s winter edition
The winter series of Love Island, filmed in South Africa, was first introduced back in January 2020, however the following year it couldn’t run due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It returned to our screens this year, but unfortunately it won’t be making a return in 2024 due to low ratings.
However fans don’t have to worry as there will be an All Stars season instead – where UK, US and Australian favourites will take part.
A source told the MailOnline: “The winter series of Love Island has been axed for a second time… viewers just aren’t interested in watching the show twice a year.
“It will be replaced by a brand new All Stars series, which will feature former Islanders who are still looking for love.
“In terms of iconic Love Island stars who are now happily married including the likes of Olivia Attwood, producers are looking into cameo appearances so that they still involve fan favourites from the years gone by.”
According to the publication the series will be filmed in South Africa and ITV are already on the look out for potential legends to return.
They’ve apparently got their eye on the likes of Love Island series four favourites Georgia Steel and Megan Barton Hanson, as well as series five star Maura Higgins.
The winter series of 2020 was won by Paige Turley and Finley Tapp, who recently shocked fans when they revealed they had gone their separate ways.
This year Sanam Harrinanan and Kai Fagan were crowned winners.
Tonight viewers will find out who will win this year’s summer series of the ITV2 show.
It is between Whitney Adebayo and Lochan Nowacki, Zachariah Noble and Molly Marsh, Sammy Root and Jess Harding, and Ella Thomas and Tyrique Hyde.
Producers are keen to bring back Megan Barton Hanson
