You can now enjoy scenic rail journeys from the comfort of your own living room

TRAINS are arriving thick and fast at a brand new station — on TV.

It shows scenic rail journeys filmed in HD from the driver’s cab, with zero chance of cancellations, leaves on the line and no irritating announcements.

It features picturesque routes including Chester to Swansea via Shrewsbury

Viewers can be transported blissfully round the country while listening to relaxing background music — without moving from the sofa.

Network Rail’s new channel, Great British Journeys, hopes to inspire travellers to explore the country after Covid.

It features picturesque routes including Chester to Swansea via Shrewsbury, Exmouth to Exeter Central, and Mallaig to Glenfinnan in the Highlands.

It follows the success of Netflix’s fireplace stream that lets viewers watch flames flickering.

Jacqueline Starr, chief executive officer of the Rail Delivery Group, called the high-definition footage — which is available on National Rail’s YouTube channel — “the most comprehensive and high quality ever shot on Britain’s railway”.

She added: “We want these rarely seen views of stunning Great British journeys, shot direct from the driver’s cab, to inspire people to get back on track and enjoy the best of Britain.”

It is part of the rail industry’s push to increase train usage following disruptions from the pandemic.
