The 61-year-old star shot to fame with her attention-grabbing slick, bright hairdo – but has now embraced her natural locks.
Mary admitted she was unable to maintain her signature style due to hairdressers being closed down, and she was such a fan of her new look that she stuck with it even after the salons opened again.
Mary explained at the time: “Through lockdown, my grey started to come through and everyone, my sister in particular was like: ‘What are you going to do with your hair? How are you going to get it cut?’
“And I remember I had to do an interview for the BBC, and I just looked at my head – grown out, grey had come through – and I just thought: ‘No, this is me now.’.”
The star went on: “And I think it is that journey of softness; I think it is that journey of me feeling connected deeply to where I am now in my life.
“So, no, no more bob. It’s grey and a bit of blonde thrown in there, and it’s longer.”
Mary established herself as the “Queen of Shops” thanks to a series of documentaries and best-selling books on high street fashion.
Mary Queen of Shops ran for four series on the BBC between 2007 to 2010 before the personality jumped over to Channel 4 with Mary Portas: Secret Shopper which followed a similar format.
In most of her TV work, Mary visits both independent and high street chain stores in a bid to turnaround their fortunes with her expert advice.
