Meet the Queen’s grandchildren

THE QUEEN is affectionately considered the nation’s grandmother but to some lucky royals, she actually is their grandma.

The royal family is sprawling so it can be hard to keep track of all the relations, here’s the low down on all the Queen’s grandchildren.

The Queen is often seen surrounded by family

Who are the Queen’s grandchildren?

The Queen has four children herself – Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

They have given Her Majesty eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Peter Phillips

Peter Phillips is the son of the Queen’s only daughter, Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips.

The eldest grandchild of Her Majesty was born on November 15, 1977 and is 18th in line to the throne.

He attended the University of Exeter and worked for multiple Formula 1 racing teams as well as the Royal Bank of Scotland before moving to SEL UK as a managing director.

Peter, 44, married Autumn Kelly on May 17, 2008 and have two children together – Savannah and Isla.

In 2020, the couple announced they had separated in 2019 and they settled their divorce in June 2021.

Zara Tindall

Zara Tindall is a silver medal Olympian

Sister to Peter and daughter of Olympic athlete Princess Anne, Zara Tindall is best known for her skill as an equestrian.

Born just four years after her brother, Zara, 40, is 21st in line to the throne.

She followed in her mother’s footsteps and became an Olympian and won silver in the London 2012 Olympics.

With her husband Mike Tindall, she has three children – Mia, Lena and Lucas.

Zara and Peter do not have titles or royal rank, due to archaic rules and their father, Mark Phillips, being a commoner.

It is believed that Princess Anne also chose not to give her children titles as she wanted her children to grow up without the pressures of royal duty.

Prince William

Second-in-line to the throne and full time Royal is Prince William.

He is the eldest son of heir apparent Prince Charles and Princess Diana, who divorced before her tragic death in 1997.

In 2011, William, 39, married Kate Middleton, 40, before which he was made the Duke of Cambridge.

The Cambridges grew their family with Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 6, and Prince Louis, 3.

Prince William served as a full time in the RAF and performs many royal duties on behalf of the Queen.

He hold patronage with over 30 charitable and military organisations and launched an environmental initiative worth £50 million.

Prince Harry

Prince Harry, 37, is the youngest son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, born on September 15, 1984.

He, like his brother, served in the military and launched the Invictus Games in 2014 for wounded, injured and sick service men and women.

His marriage to American actress Meghan Markle, 40, in 2018 and subsequent stepping down from royal status caused much controversy.

The couple have two children together, Archie and Lilibet Diana – named after her grandmother the Princess of Wales and her great grandmother the Queen.

They currently live together in California and launched their company Archewell Inc. in 2020.

Princess Beatrice

10th-in-line to the throne is Princess Beatrice, born August 8, 1988, to Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.

She works as the vice president to software company Afiniti and also is involved with a number of charities such as Teenage Cancer Trust.

In 2020 she married Italian noble Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who is the son of former British Olympian Alex Mapelli Mozzi.

The couple welcomed their daughter Sienna Elizabeth Mepelli Mozzi to the world on September 18, 2021.

Beatrice, 33, is also stepmother to Christopher Woolf from her husband’s previous relationship with architect Dara Huang.

Her father, Prince Andrew, apologised to Beatrice and her sister for his sexual assault scandal – which he has since settled.

Princess Eugenie

The youngest daughter of Prince Andrew is Princess Eugenie, 32, who is now 12th-in-line to the throne.

She studied English literature and art history at Newcastle University and now works as a director for art gallery Hauser & Wirth.

Like many of the Queen’s grandchildren, she also works privately with many charities.

Eugenie was the first royal baby to have a public christening and suffered from scoliosis as a child, for which she underwent corrective surgery at age 12.

In 2018, Eugenie married Jack Brooksbank who she had been dating for seven years before.

The pair have a son together named August Phillip Hawke Brooksbank, who was born on February 9, 2021.

Lady Louise Windsor

One of the Queen’s youngest grandchildren is Lady Louise Windsor, 18, who is the daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones.

Louise was the last royal to be baptised in the original royal christening gown, which had been used since 1841.

She was a bridesmaid at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, when she was just seven-years-old.

Like her grandmother, she has a keen interest in horses and was on horseback as part of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations in 2016.

She inherited the late Duke of Edinburgh‘s ponies and carriage, which she honoured by attending a carriage driving event on the anniversary of his death.

Lady Louise has been rumoured to be the Queen’s favourite grandchild.

James, Viscount Severn

James is titled Viscount Severn after the River Severn in Wales

Youngest child of Prince Edward and youngest grandchild to the Queen is James Alexander Philip Theo Mountbatten-Windsor.

Styled as a Viscount rather than a prince, like his sister Lady Louise.

He was born on December 17, 2007 and baptised in the replica royal christening gown.

In 2015, he accompanied his sister and their parents in a trip to South Africa – the first time the children had participated in an overseas engagement.

He attends Eagle House School in Berkshire, one of the oldest preparatory schools in England.
