The Queen surprises viewers with unexpected response to Omid Djalili’s awkward joke

THE Queen surprised viewers of ITV’s Platinum Jubilee special as she was seen responding unexpectedly to an awkward joke.

Omid Djalili took to the stage during the show on Sunday night to entertain the masses with a comedy set.

Omid was seen cracking jokes about the Queen’s appearance at the event

Her Majesty appeared to shrug off the cheeky joke

The comedian, 56, couldn’t resist making a cheeky jibe towards Her Majesty during his set at the Gallop Through History event.

But instead of getting upset over the joke, the Monarch was seen laughing, smiling and lifting her hands in the air during the show.

Omid made reference to the Queen had to pass on a Government event earlier in the week, with son Prince Charles going instead.

The Queen was forced to pull out of the State Opening of Parliament due to mobility issue, but watched it from Windsor Castle on TV.

However, despite worries she wouldn’t make it to her Jubilee celebration, she was seen in good health enjoying the show.

“Thank you to the Great British public who have shown up tonight, in the back there, wearing comfortable shoes and rain-wear,” Omid said.

“Your Royal Highness, on behalf of everyone here we’d like to thank you, humbly, for picking us over the State Opening of Parliament.

“You did the right thing, and I won £5 in a bet with my local kebab shop owner in Ipswich.”

Instead of getting upset about the jibe, however, her Majesty shocked viewers when she lifted her hand up to show her enjoyment.

Viewers flooded Twitter after noticing the unexpected reaction, calling it the “best moment of the night”.

“Best moment of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, when Omid Djalili said, ‘Thank you for choosing us over the State Opening’. The Queen smiled and waves! Priceless!”

A second chimed in: “Haha The Queen just raised her hand in agreement about choosing the Platinum Jubilee.”

It comes after viewers were left in hysterics after the Queen shrugged following Alan Titchmarsh‘s gushing speech.

Alan said: “For 70 years there’s been one constant heartbeat of this nation, and that heart belongs to Her Majesty The Queen.”

As the crowds applauded, cameras turned to the 96-year-old monarch who looked entirely unmoved by the gushing speech.

The Queen was seen turning to the man on her left and shrugging before turning back to watch the show.
