WATERLOO Road’s Adam Thomas led a Waterloo Road reunion as he hugged his former co-star Katie Griffiths.
The pair – who played Donte Charles and Chloe Grainger in the BBC drama – were last seen on our screens as the young couple 13 years ago.
In September last year it was revealed that Waterloo Road is returning for a new series SIX YEARS after being axed by the BBC.
And viewers will be happy to know that fan favourites Donte and Chloe will be be making an epic comeback too.
Adam, who played Waterloo Road’s bad boy between 2006 and 2009, shared a snap of himself with his on-screen lover Katie on Instagram.
The actor captioned the post: “
The news is finally out!!!
Donte and Chloe are back!! @kaytgriff
.”
Many couldn’t contain their excitement in the comments section.
Geordie Shore’s Vicky Pattison wrote: “ICONIC.”
Diversity’s Jordan Banjo added: “Right, I’m actually going to cry
.”
Corrie star Lucy Fallon chimed in: “Love it.”
While Hollyoaks favourite Chris Fountain said: “Amazing news
.”
Katie played Chloe between 2006 and 2009 on the show.
The on-screen couple went through their fair share of ups and downs on the programme, including coming to terms with the death of Donte’s best friend Adam Deardon in series one.
Chloe also cheated on Donte with his sister Mika’s boyfriend Brett Aspinall n series three.
However the pair put their troubles behind them and tied the knot in series four and also had a baby together.
They were last seen on our screens 13 years ago when they moved out of Manchester so that Chloe could go to university.
Speaking about his return, Adam said: “I’m so excited to go back to where it all started! Waterloo Road was a huge part of my life and career so to go back 15 years later is a dream come true.
“I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity to get back to acting and doing what I love! I can’t wait to see some old faces and some new. I know this series is going to be the best one yet.”
Katie added: “I am incredibly excited to be returning to Waterloo Road – loved by all who make and watch it!
“Chlo was my first professional acting role, and I feel so lucky to be part of the show again. I can’t wait to see what stories unfold!”
It looks like they’re not the only characters returning as Angela Griffin is also reprising her role as teacher Kim Campbell, who she played between 2006 and 2010.
The school-based drama originally aired from 2006-2015 and featured familiar faces including Jill Halfpenny, Neil Morrissey and Neil Pearson.
Now the school-based drama is coming back to BBC One, as part of a commitment to creating new shows across the country.
A new series of the award-winning show will be made and set in Greater Manchester.
The BBC hopes it will drama production skills in the North of England “reflect, represent and serve all parts of the country.”
Piers Wenger, Director of BBC Drama, said: “Waterloo Road is the perfect lens through which to explore post-Covid Britain, from the perspective of those who have arguably been affected most: young people in education.
“We are thrilled to be returning to this brilliant format – its thrills and spills, unmissable characters and high drama – at a time when audiences across Britain need it most – and to be collaborating with the brilliant Cameron Roach and Wall To Wall on its return.”
Cameron Roach, Executive Producer, added: “I’m really thrilled to be working with the BBC and Wall To Wall, in re-igniting the iconic brand of Waterloo Road.
“The vital and urgent stories that are playing out in schools across the UK provide incredible and emotionally powerful themes, that we’re excited to bring to a new generation of fans.
Waterloo Road will continue its reputation for kickstarting, supporting and enabling careers both in front of and behind the camera, in a truly inclusive way, from our base in Greater Manchester.”
