AS CORONATION Street’s Kirk Sutherland, Andy Whyment is a gentle, mild-mannered viewer favourite.

Andy’s time on I’m A Celebrity…South Africa pushed him to the edge

Andy entered camp as a latecomer and spent seven days in camp before he was evicted in a Survival Trial on Monday night’s show.

And the savage head-to-head trials meant he spent five of those on the leanest of rations.

In an exclusive chat he said: “I’m not going to lie. I was over the rice and beans in 2019, so to be on it for five days… I found it tougher this time.

“In 2019 I was in there for 18 nights and three were rice and beans, but not consecutive days. So rice and beans for five days out of seven, it’s not good at all. I got a bit hangry.

“I think there was one point where my head fell off, I was moaning in camp and saying ‘it’s all b*llocks’.

“I had to ring my mum the day after it was shown on screen and apologise for my swearing.”

Andy was also frustrated in camp by other celebrities, including his nemesis Janice Dickinson, dodging trials.

In his final challenge, four campmates had to volunteer as Janice, Paul Burrell, Carol Vorderman and Phil Tufnell all refused to take part.

He added: “Four of us had to do it. So I was like, I’ll make it easy for you, I don’t mind.

“They didn’t show it but Ant and Dec turned to us and said ‘we’re gutted to see you four down here’ and I actually said ‘if us four didn’t stick our hands up you wouldn’t have had a trial’.

“It’s frustrating me a bit that I left doing three trials and Janice didn’t do one trial and she was still in there. That was the frustrating thing.

“And the fact she turned round and blatantly said ‘I don’t want to do it’.

“It’s annoying knowing she’s there and I’ve gone, but listen it is what it is.

“At least when I came out I got a three course meal and a couple of beers and got to speak to my wife and the kids.”

Last week fellow show alumni Peter Andre, who appeared in 2004 and then again in 2011, said his second time in camp was a flop.

Andy commented: “When you think about it, there are over 200 people that have done the show over the 22 series so for me to be asked to go back was a privilege.

“Don’t get me wrong I did struggle, but I still had some amazing moments and met some great people.”

Meanwhile Andy has opened up on what the future has in store for him on Coronation Street and his character Kirk.

Kirk is still reeling from his dramatic split with wife Beth after her betrayal with old flame Marco.

And he has revealed that Janice Dickinson “abused” I’m A Celeb hosts Ant and Dec in camp.
