Midlands Today is the flagship local bulletin for the West Midlands, however a serious mistake was made on air.

Presenter Amy Cole was seen to restart her report from a demonstraion

Ben Godfrey was presenting Friday’s edition (11 August) of the programme when he cut to a pre-recorded report by Amy Cole.

She was reporting in front of protestors at demonstration against the demolition of the burnt down Crooked House pub.

However she made a mistake midway through the report and she opted to start again.

She explained: “Because of that appeal from the West Midlands mayor Andy Street, asking people not now to go … let’s do it again.”

The camera then zoomed into her face to change the angle before she exclaimed, “okay’, where she subsequently restarted her piece to camera.

One account on X – formerly known as Twitter – immediately caught the blunder and sent it to their followers.

Clean Feed at the TV Room posted: “Another retake making it to air on the BBC. No bad language this time though.

“This “as live” report from Amy Cole on BBC Midlands Today’s 6.30pm programme today.

“Thanks to one of our readers for flagging.”

This comes just after another excruciating moment where BBC News accidentally aired a presenter’s outtake – as she swore in the middle of a broadcast.

On Thursday, anchor Matthew Amroliwala hosted the news and gave an update on the PSNI date breach, panning to presenter Charlotte Gallagher.

After failing to show a video package, he said: “Well apologies we can’t bring you that clip, but our correspondent Charlotte Gallagher has this report.”

The screen then cut to Charlotte who filmed a broadcast as if it was live from the BBC Northern Ireland newsroom.

She started to launch into her piece about the data breach, but then tripped over her words and started again.

It soon became apparent that this wasn’t the finished package that should have been broadcast, as she stopped again and said: “I can’t get my words out…f***.”

She was then seen rolling her tongue over her teeth as she composed herself and started again, before the footage quickly cut back to Matthew in the studio.
