Joel Dommett is the host of the rebooted show which was last on ITV in 2002

Former I’m A Celebrity star Joel Dommett, 38, is set to host the relaunch of the international franchise as 18 contestants face the endurance programme.

Back in September 2022, it was confirmed that 16 new episodes of the show would be made to air late in 2023.

But fans of the hit franchise have got their first sneak peak of what is to come as the BBC released a brand new trailer.

In the short clip, Joel can be seen giving a powerful speech as he sails to the exotic location in a boat whilst various contestants battle it out.

The new reality TV personalities will compete in a series of physically gruelling challenges in the Dominican Republic for a cash prize of £100K.

As part of the show, the group become castaways in an isolated location, where they must provide food, water, fire, and shelter for themselves.

They also compete in challenges for rewards and immunity from elimination in the competition.

The host exclaimed: “Welcome to a remote corner of the world where 18 people will take part in the toughest, most challenging reality show on television.

“They’ve come to fight it out in a strategic game that will push them physically, mentally and emotionally.

“Who will outwit, outplay and outlast all the others to become the sole survivor?

“The tension and excitement here is building like the Wimbledon final.”

He added: “This is survivor!”, as a camera zooms out to reveal him on the beach of the deserted island with a huge logo prop for added gravitas.

The show was last seen on British TV in 2002 on ITV where it was cancelled after only two series.

However the franchise is a huge success globally, having local instalments produced in the US, France, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Estonia, Israel, and The Philippines.
