Residents Maids Moreton in Buckinghamshire have blasted the BBC

Author Peter, 69, was killed by Benjamin, 28, after he manipulated the older man for financial gain and tried to make his death look like an accident or suicide.

Peter was duped into a fake relationship with Benjamin, who hoped the pensioner would change his will.

In October 2019 was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 36 years for the killing.

Although the court found him not guilty of plotting to kill Mr Farquhar’s neighbour Ann Moore-Martin – who died at the age of 83 in a care home in 2017 – however he did admit to defraud her.

Despite the gripping storyline of the series – which stars BAFTA nominee Timothy Spall and Irish actor Eanna Hardwicke – the BBC drama has received complaints.

The stellar cast also includes the likes of Anne Reid, Annabel Scholey and BAFTA nominee Sheila Hancock.

It was also made in full co-operation with family members of both Peter Farquhar and Ann Moore-Martin who supported the show and were allowed to view episodes before they were shown on air.

However, local residents of Maids Moreton in Buckinghamshire where the murders took place are absolutely furious with the publicly funded broadcaster.

One neighbour told The Mail Online: “I knew Peter well and I am not happy with the drama. I don’t want to talk about it.”

Another who moved into the area after the murders took place remarked: “I didn’t want to watch the TV show. I think it’s quite insensitive. It wasn’t very long ago. I was shocked when I first saw they were going to do it… It doesn’t seem like a suitable subject, to be honest.”

However not everyone in the area agreed as one resident told the outlet that they only learned about tragedy after the BBC released the first episode.

“I think it’s good to have the drama because people should know about it,” they explained.

However the neighbour also said how they could understand the feelings of their fellow Buckinghamshire residents.

The resident continued: “But they are too like them… It’s too hard; it’s too real and close to home. I think people are very upset by the show, to be honest
