Call The Midwife fans rumble the sneaky way bosses hid Helen George’s pregnancy in latest episode

CALL the Midwife fans have rumbled the sneaky way how BBC bosses hid Helen George’s pregnancy in its latest episode.

Fans of the show bid an emotional farewell to midwife Trixie Franklin in a recent episode of the BBC show, as the nurse flew to Portofino to look after her sick aunt.

That’s because Helen, the actress that plays her, took some time out of filming to give birth to her own baby – second daughter Lark.

Helen and her former co-star Jack Ashton welcomed little Lark in November, a baby sister for their older daughter Wren, four.

And the Call the Midwife cast and crew have been very open about how they kept Helen’s growing bump hidden during filming for series eleven.

Opening up about the “clever trickery” the team thought up, the mum-of-two said costumes became “invaluable” in hiding her pregnancy.

She explained: “The fashion for Trixie this year has been very 60s, very fun. It’s been continuing on the Jackie O theme with some lovely twin sets.”

“But I am pregnant this year, so we are trying to use some clever trickery in the costumes to try and hide the bump slightly because it’s not really appropriate that Trixie should be pregnant in this series.”

Helen added: “So poor Claire the costume designer has been working hard to try and get some wonderfully fashionable suits that hide the ever-growing bump.”

The filming tricks didn’t go unnoticed with eagle-eyed viewers, with many applauding the measures gone to in order to hide her bump.

Pointing out the clever camera angles and Helen hiding behind props, one said: “I’m living for the ways Call The Midwife is trying to hide Trixie’s pregnancy.”

While another messaged Helen directly, saying: “You looked amazing on Call the Midwife. Loving the way they are filming you, covering bump with clever camera work, clothing and props.”

A third wrote: “Very clever camera work has been abundant this series of Call the Midwife, not just for you, but to enable Covid safety during filming.”
