Coronation Street’s Alexandra Mardell gushes about new job after quitting soap as Emma Brooker

CORONATION Street actress Alexandra Mardell has gushed about her new job after quitting the soap.

Alexandra, 28, who plays barmaid Emma Brooker, will film her exit scenes later this month but will remain on screen until April.

However she has already landed a new job teaching acting workshops to youngsters in Leeds.

Posting on Instagram, Alexandra shared: “Such a lovely weekend with the @lbact.ltd team! Well done to everyone who came along to the open day. You were all fab!”

Corrie bosses have confirmed the door will be left open for her.

Speaking about her decision to leave after four years on the cobbles, she said: “Playing Emma, on the most iconic street there is, has been the best experience of my life.

“Four years have gone so fast.

“Compared to other cast members I still feel like a newbie, which makes my decision to leave all the more difficult.

“But I feel it’s the right time for me.

“I can’t thank everyone at Coronation Street enough for welcoming me and trusting me to tell so many wonderful and heartfelt ­stories.

“And for the friendships.”

She burst onto our screens in 2018 as the secret daughter of Steve McDonald and his ex-girlfriend from the 1990s, Fiona Middleton.

Alexandra’s portrayal of sweet-natured Emma saw her crowned Best Newcomer at the British Soap Awards in 2019.

She is currently the centre of a huge storyline after Faye Windass knocked down a pensioner during a driving lesson with tipsy Emma.

Corrie boss Iain MacLeod said: “Emma has found herself in a massive pickle — one which will cause her to wave goodbye to the cobbles. At least for now.

“Alexandra has been pure Corrie gold and I wish her all the best.”
