CASUALTY fans all voiced their fears for nurse David Hide as the much-loved BBC drama returned for a new series.
The grieving dad has been searching for answers after his son Ollie died in a school shooting.
David is unravelling after son Ollie’s death
He became emotional during a chat with Jacob
He asked his colleague Dylan to look at some of his late son’s drawings in tonight’s episode as he desperately hunts for clues that will shed light on what happened.
After David crossed a line with a patient later in the episode, Dylan reprimanded him and told him he doubted whether occupational health should have cleared him for work.
He then sent the vulnerable nurse home for the day, telling him he was proving a ‘hinderence’ on the busy ward.
An emotional David then confided in Jacob outside the hospital and was on the verge on tears as he recalled a memory of a day at the beach with Ollie.
“I didn’t see him drifting away,” he admitted. “Turning into a monster. There are no answers are there? No excuses. He is out of my life for good.”
As he continued to spiral as he tried to figure out what made his son the way he was, he went home and torched some of Ollie’s things.
Viewers were quick to take to twitter to share their fears for the nurse’s state of mind.
One wrote: “Really worried about David’s mental health.”
“Poor David” added a second.
A third chipped in: “I’m really excited hope David finds happiness I’m gonna cry a lot Xx”
And a fourth praised actor Jason Durr, who plays the struggling medic.
“Poor old David, yet again brilliant acting by @jasedurr Some very tough scenes,” they wrote.
“Don’t blame yourself David,” weighed in a fifth. “You did your very best and you were a fantastic Dad.”
The hospital drama’s latest run tonight marked the start of the show’s 37th series.
