Coronation Street spoilers: Nina Lucas seeks help over crippling anxiety condition

CORONATION Street tackles mental health with Nina Lucas’ anxiety storyline.

After acting out in strange ways in the ITV soap, the character finally seeks the professional help she needs.

Nina Lucas suffers from anxiety

Overcoming her grief following a violent attack instigated by Corey Brent (which led to her former boyfriend Seb Franklin’s death), Nina (Mollie Gallagher) has developed a bad case of anxiety.

This had led to fear for the safety of the people closest to her, particularly Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey).

When the latter considers applying for Glasgow University, while remaining hesitant due to Nina being vulnerable, the youngster’s anxiety comes out in a troubling way.

Nina locks Asha in the café after swiping her phone to stop her from leaving, worried about reports of flooding in Scotland.

And when her irrational fears for her girlfriend’s well-being come to a head, Nina decides that the time has come for her to ask for help.

In scenes due on our screens next week, becoming aware of her concerning behaviour, Nina turns to her doctor and is grateful when Roy Cropper (David Neilson) offers to accompany her, showing his support.

Following the appointment, Nina informs both Roy and Asha that she has been added to the waiting list for counselling.

In the meantime, her doctor has advised her to find other methods to tackle her anxiety.

This could be the first step to healing for Nina after an incredibly difficult year in 2021.

Over the festive period, Nina’s anxiety became so crippling she decided to shut herself away completely.

An overwhelmed Nina eventually confided in her girlfriend, letting her know she is suffering from anxiety attacks.

Asha has since become Nina’s constant main source of support during her struggle, which has only led her to fear more for her safety.

Nina has also struggled with PTSD flashbacks to Seb’s death and her assault.

When she let a helping hand to Kelly Neelan (Millie Gibson) in November, 2021, despite her involvement in Seb’s murder, Nina was awash with anxiety and overcome by an intense attack.

As Asha worried about her, Nina pretended she was fine.

Will Nina get the help she needs and deserves?

How will she cope with her anxiety in the meantime?

All that and more cobble drama on ITV.
