AUDREY Roberts’ drinking has been a cause for major concern in Weatherfield – and could be the cause for more harm.
Next week in Coronation Street, the character’s son Stephen Reid makes a shocking return and sees how badly things have turned out.
Things are about to get seriously out of hand for Corrie stalwart Audrey Roberts, played by soap legend Sue Nicholls.
Earlier in the long-running program, the hairdresser sparked worries within her family as her reliance on the bottle seemed to grow.
But when her son Stephen Reid (portrayed by Todd Boyce) comes back to the cobbles after less than fifteen years away, it becomes clear Audrey really needs help to overcome her drinking habit.
It all begins when Shona Platt agrees to keep an eye on Audrey, on the one condition Gail disposes of the Thai brass elephant.

However, Audrey has other plans and escapes Shona’s watch to go to the Rovers – where her daughter finds her, wrestling a bottle of wine from her hand.
Long-term frenemies Audrey and Rita Tanner then agree to bury the hatchet and raise a toast to growing old disgracefully.
Drama picks up a pace when Rita finds Audrey at the pub, enjoying her first drink of the day, and suggests it could be time for her to get back to work.
Audrey’s attitude continues to rattle those around as her grandson David Platt despairs when she announces she’s returning to work, cracks open a wine bottle and flirts with Ryan, in need of a cut.
David then asserts it’s time Audrey went home, but as she heads for her coat, she trips over the Thai elephant, sending her sprawling across the floor.
Maria Connor later steps in when a tipsy Audrey plays table football with Ryan – but she refuses to go home.
Gail tries to approach Audrey to talk some sense into her, but she hits the roof as soon as her drinking is mentioned and declares her intention to move back home.
