Coronation Street will lock comedian Jason Manford in the Rovers in live Twitter broadcast game

IN what sounds like heaven, Jason Manford will be locked inside Coronation Street’s Rovers Return pub.

The Mancunian comedian is taking part in a real-time UK first, where Corrie is teaming up with Twitter in a special 60th Anniversary online event.

Comedian Jason Manford will be locked in Coronation Street’s famous pub, Rovers Return

One Sunday December 6 at 2pm Manford will compete in the Race to the Rover which will bring together Corrie fans, cast and digital crew.

Chaos will surely come to the Cobbles as the Corrie digital team ‘lock’ Manford in the Rovers Return.

Then cast members Mikey North (Gary Windass), Julia Goulding (Shona Platt), Ryan Russell (Michael Bailey) and Mollie Gallagher (Nina Lucas) will have just 60 minutes to set him free!.

To rescue Manford, each of the team will have to successfully complete a series of mental and physical games before the comedian’s bar tab runs out.

TV presenter Ben Shires will be on hand as the Rover Roving Reporter to not only host the hunt, but make sure everyone plays fair but also has fun.

The Corrie digital team will use a dynamic graphic overlay to allow fans to help or hinder each player’s progress by using specially created hashtags #CorrieHelp #CorreHinder.

Fans will also see a selection of their tweets sent directly to hosts and cast as they play along.

Corrie fans can’t wait to join in on the fun and took to Twitter to express their excitement.

Mollie Gallagher (Nina Lucas) will be trying to crack Manford out of the pub

“Omg this sounds like SO much fun,” wrote one fan.

Another added: “I’m really looking forward to this, sounds really exciting.”

And a third said: “This sounds AMAZING and i’m off Sunday too yaaaas.”

ITV said it wanted to do “something a bit different” to celebrate Corrie’s 60th anniversary this week.

As will Julia Goulding (Shona Platt)

Ryan Russell who plays Michael Bailey will have to complete tasks to help free Manford

Mikey North (Gary Windass) will be on hand to help in the shenanigans

“We wanted to do something a bit different and this kind of ground-breaking digital project shows that we’re constantly trying to push what we can do on the cobbles,” said Claire Hoang, Digital Executive Producer for ITV.

“We’re sure having Jason being rescued by Mikey, Julia, Ryan and Mollie will be as dramatic as everything else we’ve seen on the street over the years.”
