Scenes Re-Written as Cast and Crew Battle with Virus
Coronation Street's highly anticipated Super Soap Week has been hit by Covid, forcing scenes to be re-written and stars to pull out. Cast member Lisa George confirmed her absence from the episodes and revealed that the soap's cast and crew were "dropping like flies" after being struck down with the virus.
Stephen's Serial Killer Storyline Reaches Climax
Super Soap Week kicks off with a bang as viewers will witness the dramatic conclusion to Stephen Reid's serial killer storyline. Played by Todd Boyce, Stephen will plan his escape from Weatherfield while leaving a trail of dead bodies behind him.
Covid Forces Cast Changes
However, due to Covid, one Corrie star who was supposed to appear in the week's dramatic scenes had to be written out. Lisa George, known for her role as Beth Tinkler, revealed at the Pride of Britain Awards that she tested positive for Covid and was cut from the episodes. "I was gutted as I really liked the scenes," she said, describing the sudden rush of Covid cases among the cast and crew.
Having been absent from filming, Lisa admitted that she has no clue what to expect from the re-writes, so she will be just as surprised as the viewers when the scenes air this week. It remains unclear which of her co-stars were also affected by the illness and may be missing from the upcoming episodes.
Speculation about Lisa George's Future on Corrie
This week marks the third month of Lisa George's absence from Coronation Street. Prior to contracting Covid in September, she took some time off the soap for travel and was waiting for a new contract, which she now has. The absence sparked rumors of her exit, especially after she mentioned in an interview that a role on Call the Midwife would be a dream. However, Lisa clarified that the rumors took her by surprise and emphasized that she will be returning to the soap later this year.
Coronation Street continues to air every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
