Dancing On Ice star marries new partner after split from first wife and ‘growing close to Maura Higgins’

DANCING on Ice star Alexander Demetriou is married again after splitting from his pro dancer wife.

Alex, 34, previously confessed his close friendship with Maura ­Higgins, 32, made his wife Carlotta Edwards, 33, ­jealous – and helped tear their marriage apart in 2020.

But he’s now tied the knot with Canadian skater Julia Mercer, announcing their big news on Instagram yesterday.

Sharing a beaming selfie from their getaway to New Mexico, Alex wrote, “Well today is the day I get to marry this worldie. Luckiest man alive.”

His other half gushed in the comments section, “I love you!! See you down the aisle.”

Alex previously told The Celeb Report: “I think Carlotta found it hard to see me close, yet so professional, with Maura. It had an impact on her.

“I told Carlotta we needed a break but I knew it was for good. I didn’t want to lead her on any more.

“She was shocked at how ­serious it was. I’m not going to lie — it was my decision. Clearly she was very upset.

“Several times I had to explain to Carlotta that Maura and I were just friends. Once the rumours start, it becomes a ­conversation.

“It was hard for Maura being called a homewrecker online.”

Alexander and Carlotta were axed for the 2021 lineup of professionals, a year after he and Maura competed.

Their replacements were Andy Buchanan and Robin Johnstone, who had worked in the past on the show.
