Former Dancing On Ice contestant, Claire Sweeney, was forced to sell her villa in Spain last year after making only £5,000. The 52-year-old actress, who struggled financially during the pandemic, has since made a successful TV comeback.
Tough financial times
In an interview, Claire revealed that she made less than £5,000 in 2021 due to the decimation of the entertainment industry. However, she was able to weather the storm comfortably after selling her house in Spain in 2019.
Saying goodbye to a beloved property
Claire expressed her sadness at parting with her Mallorca villa, which she had purchased in 2004 for €690,000. As a former Brookside actress, she shot to fame for her role as Lindsey Corkhill on the show. The villa, set on its own grounds, had to be sold because her son wanted to be around other children.
A bittersweet sale
Although Claire sold the property for €950,000, she had to pay Spanish and English taxes, leaving her with roughly what she had initially invested. Despite this, she still enjoys holidays in Mallorca and finds renting there less stressful than owning.
A career comeback
Luckily, Claire's career has seen a resurgence in recent years. She recently landed a role on Coronation Street, playing Cassandra 'Cassie' Plummer, the long-lost mother of Tyrone Dobbs. Additionally, she has joined the cast of Dancing On Ice.
Excitement for Dancing On Ice
Speaking about her upcoming participation on This Morning, Claire expressed both nerves and excitement for her role on Dancing On Ice. She acknowledged the difference between dancing and skating, noting that skating is more about conquering fear and challenging the mind.
