MIRIAM Margolyes has admitted to being “deeply ashamed” of HITTING her paralysed mother on BBC One’s Imagine.
The comedian sat down with show host Alan Yentob to reveal the devastating moment she opted out of sharing in her autobiography.
Miriam, 80, released her book This Much Is True this year as a memoir looking back on her life – packed with outlandish memories.
However, the Harry Potter actress revealed she did leave out some details about her relationship with her mother Ruth.
Miriam’s mother tragically passed away in 1974 after suffering a life-changing stroke which saw her totally paralysed.
“I didn’t mention something that I should have mentioned,” she said of the book. “That was that I hit my mother when she was paralysed.

“Anyone who’s been a carer will know how frustrating and difficult it is and I let that happen, I’m deeply ashamed of it.”
Getting emotional and holding back tears, she went on: “The thing that really gets to me is that my mother forgave me.
“I hit her when she was paralysed and she forgave me.”
In the programme, Miriam spoke about her mother being the “centre of her life” as she added that “she was to hers”.
She was seen smiling as she recalled their bond, as she emotionally told interviewer Alan that she was a “mummy’s girl”.
In her book, Miriam opened up about how she blamed coming out to her parents as the reason behind their deaths.
Miriam’s mother Ruth suffered a stroke just days after the actress came out as a lesbian, after finding love with a woman ages 27.
“She and my father insisted I come into the drawing room and swear on the Torah never to have relations with a woman again,” she wrote.
Ruth went on to suffer a more severe stroke several months later which saw her health deteriorate until she passed away.
“I always believed that my coming out in some way caused it,” Miriam devastatingly wrote in the book.
“I had caused the person I loved most in the world a pain she could not bear. It was a horrendous time and I was very unhappy.
“I knew I couldn’t change what I was; I should not have told them.”
