Max Bowden, who played Ben Mitchell in EastEnders, has spoken out following his departure from the long-running BBC1 soap.
After four years in the role, Max Bowden has been let go by the show's bosses. While Max has not directly addressed his exit, he did repost a birthday message from one of his biggest fans on Instagram.
The fan, known as Amz, expressed her gratitude to Max for being himself and for everything he has done. Max shared a video montage that featured moments of them together at the EastEnders set and at the National TV Awards.
Earlier in the day, Amz took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her distress about Max's departure, stating that she was still trying to process the news and that it was heartbreaking.
According to The Celeb Report, Max had a meeting with bosses who ultimately decided not to renew his contract, which was set to expire in March 2024. It is believed that Max's off-screen partying and personal life played a role in the decision, as executives felt it was overshadowing the show.
A TV insider revealed that Max's departure had been decided following discussions during his contract renewal meeting. However, the details of his exit storyline have not yet been planned.
An EastEnders spokesperson confirmed Max's departure, wishing him the best for the future.
In response to the backlash from viewers, EastEnders writer Daran Little defended the show, stating that they work hard to create stories and characters, maintain balance, and keep the soap fresh and relevant. He expressed his pride and honor to be part of the show.
