The 49-year-old heartthrob played Dennis Rickman on Albert Square, who married his adopted sister Sharon, played by Letitia Dean.

A source told The Mail on Sunday: “He is among the first to confirm and he turns 50 this summer so it is a challenge of his own, too.

“The line-up is going to be a great mix.”

Nigel’s EastEnders character was killed off in 2006 when he was stabbed on New Year’s Day and died in Sharon’s arms.

He went on to star in Downton Abbey as evil valet Mr Green.

His character was at the centre of a violent rape scene involving lady’s maid Anna, played by Joanne Froggatt.

These days Nigel can be seen on BBC soap Casualty playing doctor Max Christie.

The actor has had limited dance experience in his career having performed in 2014’s I Can’t Sing! The X Factor Musical.

He played Simon Cowell in the West End show, which was axed after six weeks over disappointing ticket sales.

Nigel is married to actress Lucy Liemann, 49 – best known for her roles in The Bill and Agatha Christie’s Poirot.

The Celeb Report previously told how Waterloo Road star Adam Thomas is also set to sign for the series.

The actor made his breakthrough on ITV’s Emmerdale as Adam Barton and finished third in 2016’s I’m A Celebrity.

Meanwhile, The One Show host, Angela Scanlon, 39, has also reportedly joined the line-up.
