EastEnders’ Richard Blackwood slams soap’s ‘hierarchy’ – warning ‘I don’t tolerate disrespect’

RICHARD Blackwood spoke of his time in Hollyoaks, which he joined in 2020.

But in doing so, the soap star hinted at the “hierarchy” in EastEnders.

He has since moved on to Hollyoaks

Vincent Hubbard vanished from Walford in 2018 and Phil Mitchell is paying the price for his involvement in the late character’s demise.

Two years after his exit from Albert Square, Richard Blackwood secured himself a spot in Hollyoaks as Felix Westwood.

During yesterday’s (July 17) Sunday Brunch with Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy on Channel 4, the actor spoke about his role in Chester while reflecting on his stint in the BBC One program.

And while he enjoyed his time in EastEnders, the 50-year-old admitted there was “less of a hierarchy” in his current job.

“The Hollyoaks team… It’s just a real family basically”, he said.

“There’s no hierarchies, no egos, and everybody wants to help everybody – it’s a great vibe.”

This prompted Simon to probe: “Is that not the norm though? Because I always imagine EastEnders must have been like that as well.”

Richard added that “EastEnders is like that” and paused.

He went on: “I’m a person that, it sounds bad to say this, but I command respect wherever I go.”

“I don’t tolerate disrespect, it’s true I don’t. So anywhere I work, I carry myself a certain way.”

“But there’s more hierarchy in EastEnders than there is Hollyoaks.”

Richard quickly continued: “But everybody in EastEnders was lovely to me.”

The soap star insisted his former co-stars “were a family” and that he was still in touch with them.

“They were a family and I see them still, I saw them the other day at the TRIC Awards.”

“Diane (Parish aka Denise Fox in EastEnders) and everyone, and we were just hugging, all of us were hugging.

“Because you’re in this compound, whether it’s EastEnders or Hollyoaks, you’re in this compound and you’re in there from morning until late evening.”

“And the next day you’re there again, so you see more of them than you see your own family.”

As mentioned above, Richard’s EastEnders character was killed off-screen in April, 2018, with his wife Kim Fox believing he had simply gone missing.

She eventually found out he was actually dead and was determined to bring Phil Mitchell down for taking part in Vincent’s murder.
