EASTENDERS star Charlie Brooks has teased an ‘explosive fire’ in the Square ahead of her character Janine Butcher’s return.
The actress revealed that Janine – who was last seen in Walford seven years ago when she fled the country following a murder trial – will follow her daughter Scarlett back to the Square.
Speaking to The Celeb Report and other media, Charlie revealed: “As we know, we’ve got Scarlett, who may find herself back in the square so Janine is heading back that way.”
Teasing a deadly fire, she continued: “We know that it’s going to be explosive, we might see some flames and a big fire, and I think some of the relationships, some of the old characters that we see her working with, for me I know when it’s exciting because I can feel it as an actress, I can feel it when two characters are sparking off each other, I’m like ‘This feels so good and so exciting’ so you’ve got a lot of that to look forward to.
“It’s fun and that’s what I’m excited about exploring with her. As well as all of the layered stuff that’s going on with her.”
It comes after the BBC One soap’s cast and crew were spotted filming a huge fire on set last month.
Local residents saw the smoke and heard a collection of emergency service vehicles wailing in the Square.
While BBC bosses kept tight-lipped about the storyline details, a source told Metro: “There were ambulances and fire engines and a lot of smoke. It was definitely not an emergency, they were filming something.”
An insider added: “The explosion is really the start of a massive autumn for the show that will take them through the rest of the year.”

The news of Janine’s highly anticipated return to the Square initially broke in April earlier this year, with EastEnders bosses finally confirming her comeback in July.
Fans were quick to speculate about whether villainous Janine will return to the Square as a reformed character.
Addressing the question, Jon Sen teased: “Obviously we can tease that when she comes back, as the character that we all know and love her as, wed be robbing the audience if we didn’t bring her back in all her glory.
“Janine is older, and she’s wiser, and she’s had time to think about what she wants to from life, we’ve seen her spend her time on the wild side and she’s grown up in the square, now she’s working out what matters in life and what’s important to her.
“She’s obviously got Scarlett, her daughter, who’s in care and that’s given her pause for thought, perhaps the maternal instinct finally clicked with Janine, who knows?
“We’d be robbing the audience if we didn’t bring back the Janine we know and love. Last time we saw her she was heading off to chase another man for his money, and now she has returned with a bit of a plan as we will discover.”
He added: “She comes back to the Square with a few friends and a lot of enemies. There are friendships to be rekindled and scores to be settled. So it makes sense for everyone to keep a pair of slip-on shoes.”
Teasing a showdown between Kat Slater and Janine over Scarlett, Kate Oates added: “I think one of the most interesting things to watch when Janine returns is how she will be as a mother.
“When she returns, Janine makes it clear that she will do anything for Scarlett – including taking on Kat Slater…but even when she’s trying to be a great mother, Janine will always end up putting herself first.”
