EMMERDALE has left fans in tears with a moving tribute to a soap legend.
On Thursdays show saw Cain and Faith Dingle sharing a poignant moment amid her cancer storyline.
Then a title card appeared paying tribute to the show’s late director, Philip Wood which read: “Dedicated to Philip Wood”.
Philip worked behind the scenes from 1999 to 2005 and directed 66 episodes.
While he didn’t work on the show at the time of his death, he was prolific in the soap world and also directed 22 episodes of Coronation Street from 2000.
His credits also included Channel 4’s Brookside and River City.
Liam O’Brien, who plays Ethan Blake in Emmerdale, wrote a sweet statement back in April following the news of Philip’s death.
He wrote: “Very sad to hear of the passing of Philip Wood a friend of mine from the @emmerdale days, a great character and wonderful director.
“First worked with him on a Brookside workshop in Belfast as a teen only to be directed by him in the farm nearly a decade later. RIP pal.”
Fans were moved by the tribute, with one writing on Twitter: “Well done #emmerdale on beautiful and moving ending last night.”
Another added: “We were incredibly touched by [the] BEAUTIFUL script for Cain and Faith.
“Dedicated to Philip Wood, who was a director of Emmerdale. Absolutely stunning.”
The scene saw Faith and her son Cain watched the sunset after she decided to stop her cancer treatment after learning the cancer had returned and there was nothing else they could do.
While the pair have had a strained relationship, Cain has put their differences aside to enjoy her final days.
Emmerdale airs on ITV and is available on ITV Hub.
