Eurovision fans are all talking about the ‘most iconic’ moment of the night – and it wasn’t one of the acts

EUROVISION fans were left celebrating the “best bit of Eurovision” they’d “ever seen” – and it was nothing to do with the singing.

The annual song contest returned last night with UK entrant Mae Muller suffering a humiliating defeat on home turf in Liverpool.

Saturday night’s explosive event came live from the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool on behalf of Ukraine.

In the brutal Eurovision voting Mae lost out to Sweden’s Loreen who scooped the crown for a second time.

Yet despite the huge number of acts performing, BBC fans were more interested in former Bake Off host Mel Giedroyc, 54.

The star was on commentating duties alongside Graham Norton to cover for him whilst he hosted the main show.

The broadcaster and comedienne flashed her legs as she perched on a table donning a saucy milkmaid’s outfit.

Mel pulled a series of funny seductive faces as she stirred a mock milk churn as co-star Hannah Waddingham talked to the camera.

Fans were quick to take to Twitter to brand it the best part of the night.

One wrote: “WTF was Mel Giedroyc doing. Highlight of the show so far.”

A second put: “Was that Mel Giedroyc churning butter sexily.”

A third gushed: “The best bit of Eurovision I’ve ever seen in my life,” while one put: “Mel Giedroyc can churn my butter any time she likes. Nothing but love for the woman.”

One added: “Crying is that Mel churning butter.”

Yet Mel also attracted flack on the night.

Many fans hit out at the star as she appeared to make an awkward faux pas by speaking over the top of on-stage host Hannah.

During the final, Hannah showed off her language skills by speaking in French.

However, Mel continued to add her commentary over the top leaving fans unable to hear Hannah’s skills.

Mel broke into Hannah’s speech to say: “While Hannah is speaking French, I should let you know that viewers in the UK can vote for your favourite act later in the show by phone and via the EBU’s Eurovision app but you cannot vote by text, put those thumbs away!”

But fans did not take too kindly to her little interruptance.

Online, one fan penned: “Mel Giedroyc talking over Hannah Waddingham while she was speaking French is a faux pas I cannot forgive.”

A second shared: “Still livid that Mel Giedroyc felt the need to speak over what would have been the hottest TV moment of 2023.”
