He plays Waffle, right, in DC League of Super-pets

The GMB entertainment editor gave viewers a peek at his scene in which his pooch, Waffle, chats to Busy Philipps’ character in a park before they’re interrupted by Dwayne’s Krypto – Superman’s pet dog.

Waffle makes a series of digs at Krypto in the scene, telling the hero that his own Superman is trying to ditch him by making him fetch objects.

Speaking about the high profile gig, Richard said: “What I love about the opportunity to voice a character like Waffle is to enjoy the theatre of it all and see how these moments are brought together.”

He then joked: “Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson and I go way back, and I have it on good authority that they are over the moon that I am such an integral part of this project.”

The clip was met by a round of applause by Charlotte Hawkins and Ben Shephard in the GMB studio.

Richard added that he hasn’t been followed by his Hollywood co-stars on Instagram just yet.

It’s already been a year to remember for the broadcaster.

Last month the 52-year-old came over all emotional after watching the opening night of Abba Voyage, the legendary band’s virtual concert.

Richard said: “It was the best night of my life.”

“To say to my eight-year-old self who was very much lost against the rhetoric of the time growing up, so did a deep dive into Abba, because he had no idea who, or what he would be, or what his life would look like now.

“To find himself not only seeing Abba, reform for the want of a better word, to be sat in the same row as ABBA, it was absolutely extraordinary. It was amazing.”
