The historic Sunday episode covered the Queen’ beginning her final journey

GMB has aired over both days this weekend, but while yesterday’s show was fronted by Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard, today Kate ran things on her own.

The historic Saturday edition left some viewers confused about what day it was, but today fans of the mum of two were very complimentary about her skills holding the broadcast together on such a monumental occasion.

One tweeted: “A true pro our Kate still with all her problems she delivered fantastic journalism. well done & thank you.”

A second said they had switched channels just for Kate, commenting: “Chose Kate Garraway for Her Majesty’s final journey coverage. I feel like I’ve done the right thing. BBC is the norm, but I don’t feel I’ve don’t wrong choosing Kate.”

A third added: “What a moment and @kategarraway doing a fantastic job at covering events this morning. More of this please over the coming days.”

This sentiment was echoed by a fourth, who weighed in: “@GMB well done to @kategarraway on this morning’s program and to her colleagues.”

Today’s programme followed the journey of The Queen from Balmoral to Edinburgh.

Aerial shots were show of the hearse being driven along the streets, which were lined with mourners.

Kate was joined by Royal photographer Chris Jackson and Royal commentator Emily Andrews.

When asked what she thought about the Prince William and Harry’s reunion, Andrews said: “I thought it was incredible for William and Harry to come out and be so assured and to meet the public and to share in their grief, because one does have to wonder as well whether this might bring back memories of the death of their mother.”

“I was wondering that, there’s potential triggering isn’t there?” Kate replied.

“The rawness of that grief for whom William said in his statement, the Queen was absolutely there with him through those darkest days.

“And so to be there thinking about her passing… I mean very very poignant moments.”

Yesterday’s show saw Susanna Reid reveal she had a “lump in her throat” as she watched footage of The Queen.

Susanna played out an iconic video clip of The Queen hosting Paddington Bear for tea – which played out for her Platinum Jubilee – that she told how she was feeling.

She looked directly at the camera and said: “I mean, that moment always brings a lump in your throat, when Paddington Bear says thank you.”

Ben agreed as the pair talked about the touching clip.
