GOGGLEBOX fans are gutted following the shock news that Marcus and Mica have quit the show.
But the well-loved couple are just a number of stars who have walked away from the C4 programme since it first hit screens.
Gogglebox’s Marcus and Mica have quit the show
Here, we take a look at which Gogglebox stars have waved their job as armchair telly critics goodbye – and why they decided to leave.
Marcus and Mica
Since joining Gogglebox in 2018, Marcus and Mica have become favourites with fans.
The couple have provided plenty of laughs over the years while giving their frank and hilarious views on a real mixture of telly shows.
Marcus and Big Meesh want to see ‘what God has in store’ for them
But after nine series’ of the C4 show, gym owner Marcus and hairstylist Mica – aka Big Meesh – have decided to quit.
A statement on social media read: “We’ve had so much fun with you all tuning in at home & the hard-working Gogglebox crews but it’s time to put down the remote and see what God has in store for us.”
Away from the cameras, the pair are both parents to children from previous relationships. In July, Mica also became a grandmother for the first time.
Their departure comes just weeks after a death in the family.
The Moffatts
Scarlett Moffatt and her parents Betty and Mark became household names thanks to Gogglebox.
However, in 2016, Scarlett decided to take a break from the show to focus on a solo TV career.
Scarlett’s quest for stardom ended the Moffatt family’s Gogglebox run
She signed up to that year’s series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! and went on to be crowned Queen Of The Jungle.
On the back of her success Down Under, she landed a hosting spot on Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, and fronted C4’s reboot of dating show Streetmate.
But as Scarlett’s career was just taking off, Betty and Mark were axed from Gogglebox.
They were not signed for the next series of Gogglebox following Scarlett’s jungle win, with the star writing on Instagram at the time: “We are gutted to, thought my Mam and dad (and little Ava) would still be able to do it
but we will still be watching #gogglebox [SIC].”
Steph and Dom
Bubbly-loving couple Steph and Dom were among the original cast of Gogglebox.
Just a year after signing up, it emerged their £3.5million mansion in Sandwich, Kent, had been hired out for an upmarket masked orgy.
Steph and Dom quit to run their now-closed down bed and breakfast
A spokesperson for the couple confirmed at the time that Steph and Dom were not at the house when the sex party took place and they continued working on Gogglebox.
Steph and Dom eventually bowed out after four years on the show and confirmed they were quitting to continue running their bed and breakfast.
Following their Gogglebox exit, they published a book, starred in reality TV shows Four In A Bed, Celebrity MasterChef and The Jump, and landed their own live radio show on talkRADIO in 2018.
In March 2020, the husband and wife duo revealed that their hotel had gone bust. They flogged the country home for £5m last year.
Sandi and Sandra
Best pals Sandi Bogle and Sandra Martin were also Gogglebox OGs, having signed up for the first series in 2013.
The duo from Brixton quickly won fans over with their hilarious takes on telly – and their love for Pot Noodles and takeaways.
BFFs Sandi and Sandra quit within a year of each other
But in 2016, the pair were torn apart when Sandi announced she was quitting to follow her dreams of becoming a TV star in her own right.
Sandra vowed to carry on, alongside her daughter Chanchez, but she struggled without her best pal.
She then quit Gogglebox a year after Sandi bowed out.
Sandra later admitted she had struggled with the more saucy shows that featured sex scenes following Sandi’s departure.
“There are certain subjects that I can’t discuss with a 24-year-old,” she said at the time.
“There are certain subjects and when we are watching a show about ‘ooh-ohh’ it’s difficult for me to talk about ‘ooh-ooh’ with my daughter.”
The Tappers
The Tapper family – made up of mum Nikki, dad Jonathan and siblings Josh and Amy – were also Gogglebox OGs.
They quickly won over viewers with their bickering but also loving relationship.
The Tapper family left Gogglebox after Josh got a Government job
But things began to dwindle after Josh landed a Government Communications Apprenticeship and quit Gogglebox in 2018.
Parents Nikki and Jonathan continued on the show alongside Amy – but she quit soon after, having set her sights on Celebs Go Dating.
As a result, nursery worker and restaurant owner Jonathan also walked away from the C4 show.
In 2020, the family found themselves back in the headlines after Jonathan feel seriously ill with Covid-19.
Thankfully, despite a scare, he pulled through and made a full recovery.
The Gilbeys
Essex family the Gilbeys – comprising of husband Pete, wife Linda and son George – joined Gogglebox for series two in 2013.
They lasted a few years, but quit when George signed up to appear in the 2015 series of Celebrity Big Brother.
Tragedy struck the Gilbey family last year
The following year, the trio were reinstated by C4 – but George later ended up on the wrong side of the law.
George was given community service in 2018 after attacking his ex-girlfriend. He was then jailed for three months in 2019 for drink driving charges.
Foster carers Linda and Pete continued on Gogglebox without their son, however tragedy hit last summer.
In June 2021, Pete sadly passed away after battling a short illness.
