Good Morning Britain fans baffled as Richard Madeley ‘goes missing’ – with Strictly star taking his place

GOOD Morning Britain fans were left baffled this morning as Richard Madeley “went missing” and was replaced by former MP and Strictly Come Dancing star Ed Balls.

Last year The Celeb Report told how Richard, 65, had bagged Piers Morgan’s old job and was set to be a full-time presenter alongside Susanna Reid.

Ed Balls has stepped in to host the show

But the I’m A Celeb star is taking a week’s break in the Cotswolds before returning to his seat.

He told his followers: “Re GMB – back Monday week and then in for a nice long spell. (Well nice for me – I enjoy the gig). Bon Dimanche from my weekend away in the beautiful Cotswolds. Those honey-coloured cottages! Stunning…”

Taking to Twitter to discuss his absence, one person wrote: “If richard madeley is new gmb presenter ..where is he .im so bored with gmb that i cant bear to watch it ..ed balls .he like watches dry toast .#GMB.”

Another asked: “#GMB not ed balls again. what’s happened to Richard Madeley.”

Ed stepped in to host the show last year on a number of occasions after Piers left.

Richard, who is best known for his work with wife Judy,  is said to have landed a £300,000-a-year deal to front the show after a series of successful guest stints.

Piers, 56, left in March after refusing to apologise to Meghan Markle for comments he made on air.

He has joined talkTV and writes a weekly column for The Celeb Report.

On the day he stormed off set, GMB overtook rival BBC Breakfast in the ratings for the first time.

Within three months, they had fallen by almost half but have since steadily climbed.
