A GOOD Morning Britain guest suffered an awkward blunder as he called Alastair Campbell ANDREW – and was called out for it in an uncomfortable moment.
The 64-year-old star returned to the ITV breakfast show earlier today, taking over from Richard Madeley as Susanna Reid’s co-host this week.
But guest Darren Lewis appeared to be thrown by the constant line-up changes, and referred to the presenter by the wrong name.
Appearing via video link to discuss tonight’s Euro 2020 semi-final, the journalist recalled something Alastair mentioned at the start of the show.
He said: “I love the fact that, Andrew, you’ve done your homework – the numbers are in our favour…”
Darren appeared to have confused Alastair for political commentator Andrew Pierce, who was in the GMB studio today.
The camera cut to show Andrew looking incredibly confused as he mouthed: “I didn’t say that”.
Alastair then repeatedly exclaimed: “Did he call me Andrew??”
Andrew laughed while Darren looked flustered, with the former quipping: “You’re going to sue over that.”
Darren looked awkward before Alastair seamlessly moved the conversation along.
Later in the show, the host proudly played ‘It’s Coming Home’ on the bagpipes live in the studio.
England will be playing Denmark for a spot in this Sunday’s final later this evening.
Alastair performed famous football chant ‘It’s Coming Home’ on the pipes – but warned before he started: “This is a really hard tune to play on the bagpipes so it sounds a bit iffy at times…
“It’s Coming Home, but as you’ve never heard it before.”
Dr Hilary was shown covering his ears as he watched live from the studio alongside other GMB guests – and Alastair later admitted that he was disappointed in his performance.
