Holly Willoughby’s future on This Morning revealed as she ‘makes huge decision’

HOLLY Willoughby is set to sign a new contract with This Morning, which is likely to boost her current £700,000 a year salary.

The presenter raised suspicions that she might have been quietly slipping away from the show after Phillip Schofield’s exit – but it appears to be the opposite.

A source told MailOnline that bosses are hopeful Holly will ‘save’ the ITV show with the new contract.

The decision comes after the show was thrown into disarray after it was revealed that Phillip was having an affair with a younger member of staff.

ITV bosses have launched an investigation into the work culture on the show after claims of bullying.

They have also been under pressure to revamp This Morning after the bad press that has come with Schofield’s departure.

A source told MailOnline: “Holly is going back. People have been saying she won’t for some time now but she is.

“ITV want her back, and they are delighted she has agreed. It will be made official shortly but it will save This Morning, it will ease a huge crisis that they are in.

“It most probably would have been game over for them if Holly had left.”

They suggested that it’s likely she will get paid more than her current salary of £700,000 a year on her new contract.

Schofield, who was married at the time of the affair, branded the relationship “unwise but not illegal”.

Schofield told the Mail: “I am making this statement via the Daily Mail to whom I have already apologised personally for misleading, through my lawyer who I also misled, about a story which they wanted to write about me a few days ago.

“The first thing I want to say is: I am deeply sorry for having lied to them, and to many others about a relationship that I had with someone working on This Morning.

“I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning.

“Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship.

“That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over. “

He said that Holly had no idea that there was anything going on between him and the younger man and she also broke her silence on what had happened.

It feels very strange indeed not being here with Phillip.

“I imagine you might have been feeling a lot like I have. Shaken, troubled, let down, worried for the well-being of people from all sides of what’s been going on and full of questions.

“You me and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth, who they themselves felt they had to resign from ITV and step down from a career that they loved.

“That’s a lot to process and it’s equally hard to see the toll it’s taken on their own mental health.

“I think what unites us all now is a desire to heal and the health and well-being for everyone.

“I hope as we start this new chapter and get back to a place of warmth and magic that this show holds for all of us, then we can find strength in each other.

“From my heart thank you for all of the kind messages. Thank you for being here this morning.

“Myself, Josie, Alison, Dermot and Craig and every single person who works on this show will continue to work hard every single day to bring you the show we love.”

The Celeb Report has contacted Holly and ITV for comment.
