Hollyoaks Star Loses Legal Battle Against Soap

Allegations of Discrimination

Hollyoaks star Lysette Anthony has lost a legal claim she brought against the show after alleging disability and race discrimination. The actress, 60, played Marnie Nightingale in the Channel 4 soap until 2022 when her character died.

Legal Claim Rejected

Ms Anthony, who has Parkinson’s, claimed she was the victim of disability and race discrimination by producers Lime Pictures. She alleged her on-screen time was reduced and she was cut from scenes. Additionally, she claimed staff failed to correct inaccuracies that implied she was racist in publications.

Controversy and Backlash

A Liverpool employment tribunal dismissed Ms Anthony’s claim as she did not respond to requests for further details. Hollyoaks actress Rachel Adedeji, who left the show amid a racism row in 2020, referred to Ms Anthony as "trash" during the controversy.

Exit and Social Media Controversy

Lysette Anthony's departure from Hollyoaks came after she quit Twitter following backlash during the racism row. Former co-star Charlie Clapham shared messages allegedly from her criticizing cast members who supported Rachel. In the messages, she referred to those supporting Rachel as "traitors" and expressed concern about the impact on their job security.
