How 'Escape to the Country' helped a grieving widow find solace in the countryside

On a recent episode of BBC's 'Escape to the Country,' presenter Briony May Williams assisted Kathy, a grieving widow, in finding her perfect property in the countryside. Kathy, who had a budget of £925,000, wanted to downsize after her husband's passing three years ago. The episode showcased four different properties, but ultimately Kathy decided not to choose any of them. Despite this, she remains confident that her late husband will always be with her every step of the way in her house-hunting journey.

Searching for a fresh start

After losing her husband, Kathy felt the need for a change and decided to sell her large six-bedroom house in Hampshire. With her five sons now adults, she wanted to downsize and find a new purpose in the countryside. She expressed her desire to move to the country or the Dorset coastline, places that held special meaning for her since childhood.

The property hunt

During the episode, Kathy was shown four different properties: a Grade II listed thatch cottage in the village of Dalwood, another thatched cottage in Dorset near Whitchurch Canonicorum, a sandstone Georgian former farmhouse near Bridport, Dorset, and a Grade II listed cottage from the 1500s. While Kathy and her son expressed interest in the first two properties, they ultimately decided not to choose any of the options presented to them.

A new lease of life

Kathy's journey to find her dream property continues, but she remains hopeful and feels a sense of comfort knowing that her late husband would be happy to see her moving forward and enjoying life. 'Escape to the Country' provided Kathy with the opportunity to explore different options and start a new chapter in her life.
